Johnson City man charged with choking family member

An East Holston Avenue man was arrested Monday on charges he choked a woman during an argument in August.

Chris Steven Ricker, 39, 224 E. Holston Ave., Apt. 3, turned himself in Monday at Johnson City Police Department headquarters on a domestic aggravated assault charge resulting from an Aug. 3 incident at 526 Care Lane.

Police said the argument between Ricker and a family member began about 3:30 p.m. Aug. 3. As the argument intensified, the victim pushed Ricker to the ground, and he did the same to her. The victim told police that after she stood up, Ricker choked her, and she nearly blacked out.

The victim had red marks on her throat consistent with her account, police said. No medical treatment was requested at the time of the incident.

After turning himself in, Ricker was taken to the Carter County Jail, where he was held on $5,000 bond. Arraignment was set for Tuesday.
