2 charged with robbing Johnson City convenience market

Robert Fulwiler and Morgan Scheidt

Two Austin Springs Road residents were arrested Sunday on accusations they tried robbing a South Brodway Street convenience market.

Robert Fulwiler, 32, and Morgan Scheidt, 21, both of 293 Austin Springs Road, No. 75, were each charged with aggravated robbery after the incident at the Scotchman at 149 S. Broadway St.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Fulwiler went into the market, approached an employee from behind and stuck an object in the employee's back, police said in a news release. The employee believed the object was a handgun. Fulwiler demanded money from the employee before running out of the store.

The employee gave police a description of the getaway vehicle, and it was found a short time later being driven by Scheidt. Police took Fulwiler, a passenger, back to the store, where he was identified by witnesses as the man who committed the robbery, police said.

Fulwiler and Scheidt were jailed in the Washington County Detention Center. Both were set to appear Tuesday in Sessions Court.
