Crack, pills found after Johnson City man crashes into Piney Flats market


A Johnson City man was arrested Sunday on drug and DUI charges after he crashed his truck into a Piney Flats convenience market.


Monty E. Machen, 39, 1610 E Fairview Ave., was arrested after police found pills and crack cocaine while investigating the crash about 12;20 p.m. at Roadrunner Market at 6757 Bristol Hwy., Piney Flats, Johnson City police said in a news release.


Machen's vehicle had struck the front of the building and shattered a front window. Police found drug paraphernalia, a small baggy of Oxycodone and Xanax pills, and a baggy with crack cocaine in the vehicle.


Machen faced charges of DUI, driving on a suspended license, simple possession of schedule IV narcotics, schedule II narcotics for resale and unlawful drug paraphernalia.


Machen was released from Johnson City Medical Center and taken to the Sullivan County Jail, where he was held without bond. A hearing was set for Tuesday in Sullivan County Sessions Court.
