James R. McInturff
A Jonesborough man accused of nearly killing his uncle in a stabbing after an argument about who would shower first was arrested late Tuesday.
James R. McInturff, 31, 218 Upper Sand Valley Road, is charged with attempted first-degree murder for the Aug. 4 attack at his home. The victim, Phillip Robinson, also lives at that address and is McInturff’s uncle.
McInturff is the second person arrested in the case. According to court records, the men were apparently involved in an argument over who would take a shower first that evening.
When Robinson told Washington County Sheriff’d Deputy Lonnie Ratliff that he got out of the shower and was drying off and getting dressed when his nephew walked past him. Robinson said he felt something go across his neck and realized his throat had been slashed.
McInturff left the house after the incident and left the knife behind, according to court documents. A woman identified as his girlfriend — Candace Y. Duncan, 28, 811 Conklin Road, Jonesborough — is accused of wiping the knife clean and tossing it into the yard. She was arrested that night on a charge of tampering with evidence.
According to Ratliff, the injury Robinson suffered was “near fatal” and required several stitches and staples to repair.
Duncan was jailed on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday.
McInturff was set for arraignment today.• Related article:
