ELIZABETHTON — Police have charged a 20-year-old Elizabethton man with stealing a laptop computer from a local fast-food restaurant.

Joshua I. Carter, 2688 Highway 19E, Apt. 1, was identified after surveillance video images from the Aug. 12 incident at McDonald's, 215 Broad St., were released to local news media, police said in a news release. The laptop's owner was a customer and had left the table briefly. The man carrying a satchel was seen on two security cameras at the restaurant.

Carter was arrested Friday and charged with theft of property over $1,000. He faces a Sessions Court hearing set for Sept. 13.
