ERWIN — An undercover operation at waste disposal center led Unicoi County Sheriff's Office deputies to arrest a 60-year-old Unicoi man on charges that he was soliciting prostitution from several women.
Bobby Dean Cooper, 114 Cooper Lane, Unicoi, was arrested after a joint investigation using an undercover agent from the Carter County Sheriff's Office.
Chief Deputy Frank Rogers said Sheriff Mike Hensley received information that several people were frequently soliciting prostitution from several women in the county, so he contacted Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes for support.
The undercover deputy was sent to the Lower Higgins Creek Waste Disposal Facility to throw away trash. During her visits, an arrangement was made with Cooper for the deputy to have sex with Cooper for money.
On Aug. 16, the agent met again with Cooper at the waste center, where Cooper confirmed that he would pay for sex, Rogers said in the news release. When the agreement was finalized, Unicoi County deputies moved in for the arrest.
Rogers said Cooper stated he had paid women for sex several times at the waste center.
Charged with patronizing prostitution within 1 1/2 miles of a school, Cooper was released from the Unicoi County Jail on $10,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance Oct. 17.
