Update: Further charges in Jonesborough shooting will be up to grand jury

Two sisters-in-law with a history of disputes and vandalism got into an argument early Friday night that led to one being shot as she advanced on the other with a kitchen knife, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said.

It happened at 181 Berry Ridge Road, and upon arrival officers found Kristin Cutshaw Bennett, 24, 218 Patton Ridge Drive, Jonesborough, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers learned that Benentt had been shot by Amanda Hartley, 32, also of Jonesborough.

Capt. Shawn Judy said Cutshaw went toward Hartley with a kitchen knife and Hartley shot her.

Cutshaw was transported to an area hospital, where charges are pending upon her release, he said.

Judy said the investigation is continuing and more charges are possible. Investigators will take the case to a grand jury to determine those charges, he said.
