Crews began tearing down the old Five Points Grocery building in Jonesborough this morning.

The business closed in March as the state prepared to take the land to improve the Five Points intersection, a notoriously dangerous junction of highways. A new roundabout will be placed at the intersection.

“Me and Five Points have had a good run," owner Kelly Street told the Press as she prepared to close in March. "Jonesborough has been good to me. ... They raised me. I’ve been down here off and on since I was about 7 years old when dad had the Chicken Shack across from the middle school. I’ve done good business. But I guess it’s time."
