A Johnson City school principal has been named a finalist for for 2013–2014 Tennessee Principal of the Year.

Tammy Pearce is in her third year as principal of Liberty Bell Middle School, having served as principal of Indian Trail Middle School from 2005 to 2011.

“I am very proud of Mrs. Pearce for the way in which she has worked collaboratively with her faculty, staff and students to move Liberty Bell Middle School in a positive direction regarding the school improvement process,” Johnson City Director of Schools Richard Bales said in a news release. “This recognition is a direct reflection on her dedication, determination, and persistence in focusing on the best interest of students.

"In addition, this brings attention to the results of innovative and progressive ideas being implemented by quality employees throughout our school system.”

The award ceremony is scheduled for the evening of Oct. 29 in Nashville.
