A Johnson City man was charged Sunday by police with shoplifting from a local department store.

Police said Evan A. Schultz, 18, 631 N. North St., was charged with felony shoplifting.

This charge stems from an incident at Target, 2116 North Roan St. Just before 4 p.m. that day a call came in to 911 claiming a man had taken merchandise from the store without paying.

Police found Schultz at McDonald’s, 2101 North Roan, after witnesses reportedly watched him take the merchandise and followed him to the restaurant.

Police said Schultz was in possession of stolen merchandise and admitted to taking it.

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $4,000 bond.

His arraignment was scheduled for Monday in Sessions Court.
