Update: Erwin woman killed in Telford crash; pickup driver who fled scene identified


An Erwin woman was killed Thursday in a hit-and-run crash in western Washington County.


Melissa L. Hayes, 40, Erwin, died after her car was struck just before 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Horace Dillow Road and Nofattie Road.


The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that Hayes was driving south on Horace Dillow and tried to make a left onto Nofattie.


She pulled into the path of a Ford pickup, which was traveling north on Nofattie.


The pickup's driver ran from from the crash scene. Charges and citations were pending.

Tennessee Department of Safety spokeswoman Dalya Qualls later reported that Roger Lane Jennings, 53, Limestone, arrived at the Washington County Sheriff’s Department about 8:30 a.m. today to give a statement regarding the crash. He was the driver of the pickup.



Jennings was permitted to leave. Charges were pending.
