Border Bash Concert in Bristol - featuring Erick Baker and Leah Gardner

Erick Baker and Leah Gardner Feature at Border Bash on State Street

Erick Baker

The seventh Border Bash concert will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013, and will feature the music of Erick Baker and Leah Gardner. Border Bash, the twice-monthly free concert series held annually May through August, celebrates its fourteenth anniversary as a roving mini-fest that has grown to include children's activities and vendors in addition to live music. Children's activities will begin at 6:00 p.m. with special guests the Misfit Gypsies and Gypsy Spirit. Live music will start at 7:00 p.m. with Erick Baker and continue into the evening with Leah Gardner starting around 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The Misfit Gypsies — Paula Nidiffer and Teresa Thompson — have been a source for Middle Eastern (fusion) Dance in the Tri-Cities since 2002. Their friendship and love of dance shines through in each performance. Each member is a contributing artist and brings something unique to the dance troupe. This collective approach allows Misfit Gypsies to offer a unique and powerful dance experience like no other. Liquid movements, staccato accents and textured choreographies capture a timeless beauty that expresses both the sensuality and strength of the female form. The troupe teaches and performs regularly in venues that range from intimate café settings to full-scale theater productions and at dance festivals around the region. Most recently shared the stage with Folk Soul Revival and Dave Eggar. The Misfit Gypsies will have special guest Gypsy Spirit also performing under the direction of Misfit Gypsies. Members are Karen Smith, Rebecca Baijot, Heather Stroup and Regan Rutledge.

About the Bands:
Erick Baker
 — Erick Baker’s powerful voice and deeply personal songwriting style have led listeners though music rich with themes central to the emotional cornerstones of their lives. In addition to steady touring, Baker has made stops at the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, NC and a New Year’s Eve show for the US troops stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Surprisingly, it wasn’t until after college graduation that Erick first picked up a guitar. His talent became quickly evident, and he soon found himself opening for John Legend. Baker has also been invited to perform with an impressive array of artists, including James Blunt, Gavin Degraw, Edwin McCain, the Goo Goo Dolls, Grace Potter, Brandi Carlisle and Heart.

Leah Gardner
 — East Tennessee native, Leah Gardner, sings soulful blues, love ballads, and country folk tunes. Her sound is influenced by roots music, old time, classic bluegrass and country, early R&B, and years of playing with a range of fine folks in and around Knoxville. She has performed at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Festival, Bonaroo, Nashville's Loveless Café and the Ryman auditorium, and Tennessee Shines. Featuring Seth Hopper on violin and trumpet, and Taylor Coker on bass.
