ELIZABETHTON — A 20-year-old woman was killed and a 12-year-old girl was injured when they were hit by sport utility vehicle while walking along Tenn. Highway 91 in the Stoney Creek community Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Whitney S. Richards, 20, Johnson City, was killed when hit by the vehicle about 1:18 p.m. The THP said Kellie D. Price, 12, of Elizabethton, also was injured.
A report said Richards and Price were walking southbound on Tenn. 91 near the intersection of Laurel Branch Road with one walking on the small shoulder of the road and one in the grass when a 2008 Ford Explorer driven by Teddy A. Green, 48, Elizabethton, struck them. Trooper Brad Moffitt reported that Green’s vehicle went onto the shoulder, striking Richards of the pedestrians and carrying her several feet before she was thrown into the grass.
Moffitt said that no charges were placed and no citations were issued.
