Chris Tomlin to kick off Sunset concerts
Contemporary Christian artists Chris Tomlin and Big Daddy Weave will kick off Fun Fest’s Sunset Concert Series on Thursday night, July 18.
Tomlin has earned 18 Dove Awards, three Grammy nominations, 10 No. 1 radio singles, one platinum and three gold albums. His album “Burning Lights” was the fourth Christian album to place first on the Billboard 200 charts, and his song “Whom Shall I Fear” was ranked No. 1 on the Christian AC Charts for 14 weeks.
Some of his most well-known songs are “Indescribable,” “How Great is Our God” and “Holy is the Lord.”
His songs have become staples of the Christian music industry worldwide. Five of his songs made the Top 10, and 15 made the Top 100 on the Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) charts, which document the songs used in church worship services.
Tomlin plays guitar and piano and typically performs with band members Daniel Carson (guitar, vocals), Jesse Reeves (bass, vocals), Travis Nunn (drums), and Matt Gilder (piano).
His Fun Fest show will take place on the Brock Services Stage at J. Fred Johnson Stadium. Big Daddy Weave will open for Tomlin at 7 p.m.
The five members of Big Daddy Weave are bringing their message of grace and God’s triumph over daunting circumstances to Kingsport as part of their Redemption Tour.
“We’ve faced a lot of personal challenges and adversity during the past couple of years,” member Mike Weaver said in an interview. “Coming to the other side of that leaves us with fresh things to share and in a place where we can share even more deeply than ever before.”
Big Daddy Weave is one of the most played artists on Christian radio and is known for the hits “Redeemed,” “Audience of One,” “In Christ” and “Every Time I Breathe.” The band’s 2010 album “Christ Has Come” won a Dove Award, and the group was nominated for New Artist of the Year in 2002.
Big Daddy Weave’s music has been featured in the WOW Hits compilations in five of the last six years, and the band has made the Christian AC charts four times.
The song “Redeemed” on the newest album “Love Come to Life” recently won Song of the Year at the K-LOVE Fan Awards, the first and only fan-voted Christian music awards show.
Weaver writes songs, sings and plays guitar with Jeff Jones (drums), Jay Weaver (bass, vocals), Joe Shirk (saxophone, keyboard), and Jeremy Redmon (guitar, vocals).
Show sponsors are Phil Bachman Honda, Carter-Trent Funeral Homes and Tele-Optics Inc. Radio sponsor is 88.3 WCQR. Additional sponsors are Eastman Credit Union and the Kingsport Convention and Visitors Bureau.
