Kingsport man charged with trying to kill wife

John M. Hyatt

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport woman's multiple trips to the hospital — where she was eventually placed on life support with a ruptured spleen — has spurred an attempted murder charge against her husband.

John M. Hyatt, 49, of 414 Chadwell Road, appeared in Kingsport court on Tuesday. An affidavit says Hyatt was arrested last week, following a Sullivan County Sheriff's Office investigation into injuries his wife had sustained over the past month.

Court records say the victim's family notified law enforcement in late June, after the woman was hospitalized in intensive care for a week. Police report that over that time she was placed on a ventilator and fed with a tube, while doctor's acknowledged major trauma suffered to her spleen didn't appear to the result of an automobile crash or fall. She also reportedly lost a large amount of blood.
