1. Paint the town red, white and blue at Downtown Johnson City’s First Friday event and featuring kid’s activities, corn hole, live music and vendors. Main Street is closed to traffic at 6 p.m. and the festivities begin.



2. The Jonesborough Repertory Theatre’s run of the 1940s USO Show continues this weekend with shows today at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 1, 4 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets: General admission $14 general admission, $12 seniors (65 and up) and students. 3. Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, 1651 W. Elk Ave., Elizabethton, hosts History at Homes Ranger led and Junior Rangers activities today beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. Information: 543-5808 or www.sycamoreshoalstn.org



4. An Appalachian Summer Festival will kick off its 29th season with an Outdoor Fireworks Concert featuring The Band Perry Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Appalachian State University’s Kidd Brewer Stadium. Tickets: $37 by calling 800-841-2787 or 828-262-4046 or http://appsummer.org/tickets
