Police release name of motorized bike rider who fell to death from bridge onto railroad bed

ELIZABETHTON — Police have released the name of a man killed Saturday when he fell from a motorized bike over a guardrail onto a railroad bed.

William Lee Parrott Sr., 60, 431 West G St., Apt. 3, was traveling east on Highway 67 on a Huffy 48cc motorized bicycle when he lost control and struck the bridge guardrail, police said in a news release.

Officer Joe Holsclaw saw the bike leaning on the guardrail of the Tenn. 67 bridge near West G Street about 12:45 p.m. Saturday. Holsclaw looked over the edge of the bridge and spotted Parrott.

Holsclaw went down to where Parrott was lying and tried to get a response by yelling at him. He then checked for a pulse and found the man’s skin was hot and dry with no pulse, the release said. Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced the man dead.

Police said there were no indications that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. Parrott was not wearing a helmet.
