Update: Sullivan County jailer arrested for DUI twice in one day

KINGSPORT -- A Sullivan County jailer who was taken into custody in Virginia early Friday for drunk driving was arrested a second time in the same day for DUI following a traffic stop that occurred on Wadlow Gap Road.

Jeffery Mathes, 51, was arrested by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office just after 9:30 p.m. Friday evening, roughly an hour after he was released from jail in Virginia. 

Mathes, a five-year employee of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, was charged with DUI and speeding following the second arrest.

GATE CITY, Va.  — An off-duty Sullivan County corrections officer was charged with driving under the influence in Scott County Friday.

 According to a news release from Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leslie Earhart, Gate City police arrested Jeffery R. Mathes.
