Free community running, conditioning program offered at Volunteer High School

CHURCH HILL — A summer-long free community track and conditioning program begins Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Volunteer High School track and will continue through the end of July on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same time.

The program is being led by former Volunteer track star Mark Moore, who went on to compete at the college level, as well as Volunteer track coach Chris Lark and school board member Chris Christian.

Christian said the program is open to runners of all ages, with a goal of encouraging youths and families to come together and train, and enjoy running and competition together while at the same time getting in shape.

The program will also train participants for the first “Falcon 5K,” which will be run Aug. 10 in conjunction with the annual Church Hill Community Celebration.

The programs will focus on teaching proper stretching techniques, running form, and fine-tuning agility, reflexes, strength and conditioning.

The program will last about an hour and a half, ending around dark. Participants who can’t make the inaugural Tuesday event are still invited to attend any of the Tuesdays or Thursdays.
