Man accused of shoplifting, selling cards

An Elizabethton man was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into a shoplifting at a Johnson City department store, according to a police news release.

According to the release, merchandise from Belk, 2011 N. Roan St., was reportedly taken from the store by Jeremy Daniel Culler, 27, and then the items were returned to the store in exchange for store gift cards.

The gift cards were then allegedly used and then sold to Katie Cash, 3001 N. Roan St., with the understanding that the cards still had monetary value.

Culler was located in the Carter County Detention Center on unrelated charges and Johnson City police served him with warrants upon his release from the CCDC.

He was charged with theft of property over $500 and theft of property under $500.

Culler was taken to Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $2,000 bond.

He was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court Wednesday at 9 a.m.
