Man charged with attempted murder in Kingsport stabbing

Jeremiah Byington

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man has been charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly pursuing his wife to the home of a friend during a domestic dispute, then stabbing her acquaintance three times in the driveway.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the incident at 180 Derby Drive, Kingsport. The resident, Sam Ireson, 23, was located with the stab wounds and identified Jeremiah Byington as his attacker.

SCSO Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart says Byington, 28, of nearby 261 Hialeah Drive, had fled in a car before police arrived at the scene. He's alleged to have driven to the home of a family member in Washington County, Tenn., then walked to a convenience store.
