An inmate in the Washington County Detention Center being held on a weapons charge was found hanging in his cell Monday, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The death of Aaron Michael Bever, 29, 2280 Palmwood Drive, Dunedin, Fla., is the fourth inmate death this year.
Bever was pronounced dead late Monday night at Johnson City Medical Center.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now investigating Bever’s death, according to to Kristin Helm, spokesperson for the agency.
“All four inmate death investigation cases are still open in Washington County,” Helm said, adding that Bever was found hanging in his cell.
“The indications are suicide,” she said.
Charles Frederick Young III, 35, 631 Saylor Hill Road, Limestone, died in the jail back in May.
Inmate Stewart W. Peppers, 22, 606 Swadley Road, No. 46, was found unconscious around 5:30 or 6 p.m. April 29 and later died.
And Jay Wiliam Davis, 39, 151 Ridgecrest Road, Jonesborough died at the jail in January.
No other details about the deaths were available Tuesday. Once the TBI begins an investigation, the sheriff’s office will not comment on the case. TBI case records are protected by state law from public review.
