A stepfather was charged Saturday with domestic aggravated assault after police said visible red marks consistent with choking with two hands were found on his stepson’s neck.
Brendan N. Ryan, 39, 210 Big Valley Drive, Apt. 2, was charged after police were called after the child showed up at a mobile home and asked to use the phone and was found to be distressed with visible marks like he had been in an altercation, court documents said. The child said his stepfather attacked him when he tried to intervene when two other children began fighting.
The child, whose age was not available, said Ryan placed his hands around his neck, choked him and pushed him against a bedroom door, at which point the child said he briefly blacked out. Ryan told police the child, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, lost control and he simply forced him into his room for punishment.
Ryan was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center. Bond details were not available. He was arraigned Monday in Sessions Court.
