Police: Johnson City man faked knifepoint robbery after trying to buy drugs

William D. Abner

A Johnson City man claimed he had been robbed at knifepoint Wednesday, but police said he faked the incident in an attempted drug transaction.

William D. Abner, 22, 1001 E. Main St., was charged with false reporting.

Police said Abner called 911 claiming he had been robbed at knifepoint. After several police officers searched the area, however, police concluded that Abner had given his money to unknown person in trying to buy illegal narcotics.

Abner was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance today.
