Carter County Jail inmate found in possession of drugs

ELIZABETHTON — A prisoner in the Carter County Jail is facing more charges after jailers reported finding him in possession of drugs.

Joshua Kim Stout, 25, 172 Grindstaff Hollow Road, was charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility and possession of schedule III, IV and VI drugs. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on July 9.

Sgt. April Grindstaff-Price said Stout had been medically furloughed to Sycamore Shoals Hospital on Thursday. When he returned, the escorting officer handed Grindstaff-Price a note from the hospital which said Stout had been found in possession of the pain reliever Gabapentin and a bag containing tobacco and rolling papers.

Grindstaff-Price told Stout he would be X-rayed to see if he was concealing anything else. After telling him that, she said she saw Stout move chairs around in his cell block and squat behind them. He was found with his pants half way down.

Grindstaff-Price then placed Stout in a chair in booking under direct supervision of the booking officers. She said he began to ask how much bond would be on a charge of introduction of contraband. As she was talking to him, she said Stout became flatulent “and I could hear the sound of plastic squeaking coming from his person. I advised inmate Stout that it was obvious that he had something and it would be better to just go ahead and give it up.”

She said Stout admitted he had a package in his rectum. An officer then escorted him to the bathroom, where he removed a white plastic bottle wrapped in plastic from his rectum. The bottle was found to contain Gabapentin, a Suboxone strip and an unidentified white pill with powdery substance on the cellophane. He was also found in possession of a pill fob containing marijuana, Klonopin and Xanax.
