The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch Monday afternoon for much of the region, including Washington, Carter, Greene and Sullivan counties.
The watch is in effect until 11 p.m.
Showers and thunderstorms were expected to develop this afternoon and could bring damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall to the area, according to the NWS.
Tonight's forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
