Update: Johnson City man charged with assaulting girlfriend by choking

Andrew D. Price

Police charged a Johnson City couple with one count each of assault after a series of fights in front of parents and a Johnson City pizza shop, according to a police report.

Andrew D. Price, 21, 764 Carroll Creek Road, was arrested on Thursday for domestic aggravated assault and his girlfriend Sarah Whitson was also charged with domestic simple assault.

Police spoke to parents who broke up a fight between them before the couple left to find Whitson’s cell phone, which Price had thrown out of the car on the way there.

Parents told police their son had a bloody lip when he came inside and Price said Whitson had hit him in the mouth in the driveway. The couple had left to go search for the phone when police arrived.

The couple was located at Papa Johns on Bristol Highway after an employee called the cops because they were seen fighting in the parking lot.

The employee reported seeing Whitson on the ground telling Price to leave her alone, according to the report.

Whitson told police Price became violent while searching for the cell phone and shoved her to the ground several times. She also told police that Price grabbed her by the neck and threw her into a utility box.

Price told police he was not physical with Whitson during their argument and could not explain why the fight occurred.

Red marks and scratches were seen on Whitson’s neck by police, who also reported smelling alcohol on Price’s breath.

Price’s bond was set at $20,000 and both are scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on June 10.
