Greene Co. man accused of assaulting Johnson City police officer

Kurtis Lee Lewis

A Greene County man was charged Thursday with assaulting a Johnson City Police department officer as he attempted to escape arrest, police said in a news release.

Kurtis Lee Lewis was arrested about 5:20 p.m. Police said officers saw a man suspected of involvement in several home invasion robberies, and as they stopped him, Lewis lied about his identity and tried to run away.

Police struggled with Lewis briefly before another foot chase began and caught him again a short distance away.

Lewis was wanted in Greene County on two warrants, one of which was for resale of crack cocaine, police said.

Lewis was charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of schedule II drugs for resale, criminal impersonation, and simple possession of schedule VI drugs.

Lewis was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $13,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance Friday.
