Update: Runaway juvenile investigation results in drug charges for Johnson City teen

Joshua A. Stevens

Johnson City police arrested a city man Monday evening on drug charges after responding to a call about a runaway juvenile, according to court records and a police report.

Joshua A. Stevens, 19, 1185 W. Mountain View Rd., Apt. 3401, was taken into custody around 9 p.m. on charges of possession of schedule VI — marijuana — for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Johnson City Police Officer Robert Edwards encountered Stevens at 215 Brown Avenue after responding there about a runaway juvenile. The runaway was there inside a vehicle with Stevens, according to court records.

When Edwards approached the vehicle, he smelled the odor of marijuana, which gave him probable cause to search the car. Inside a maroon backpack, Edwards reported finding 15 grams of marijuana, measuring scales, rolling papers and a pill grinder.

During the search, Stevens claimed ownership of the backpack, according to court documents.

Stevens was jailed on an $11,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County General Sessions Court today.
