Update: Man charged with attempted burglary says tenant owed him $20

Thomas William Basil Presnell

An East Myrtle Avenue man was arrested Thursday on a charge that he tried to break into an apartment a few blocks from his home to recover $20 the resident had borrowed.

Thomas William Basil Presnell, 22, 702 E. Myrtle Ave., was arrested after an investigation into a burglary at 515 E. Fairview Ave., Johnson City police said.

Responding to a fight at the Fairview address on Thursday, police heard glass breaking when they arrived on the scene to find Presnell trying to kick in the front door of an apartment, according to the report.

Blake Swan, 25, was hiding inside the residence from Presnell, who told police he was trying to recover $20 Swan had borrowed. Police said Presnell’s right hand was bleeding because of a broken door and window.

“The victim stated he didn’t know anything about the $20 the suspect was talking about,” according to the report.

He was charged with attempted aggravated burglary and jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

A hearing was set for Friday in Sessions Court.
