Slain Bean Station pharmacist remembered as 'wonderful listener,' 'caring family man'

BEAN STATION — Whether it was Stephen Ray Lovell’s joyous approach to life or the awful, horrific way in which he lost his, something compelled a substantial portion and East Tennessee community out Tuesday to bid him farewell.

Lovell, a pharmacist in the small community of Bean Station, was brutally slain in a robbery of his store Thursday, a crime that is almost universally considered equally senseless and tragic.

Jason Bryan Holt, 37, has been charged with Lovell’s slaying and that of Richard Alexander Sommerville, 72, who happened to be in the store at the time to buy some medication to treat poison ivy.
