Rivas covered the 26.2-mile course in a time of 3:13.40.
Milligan College senior Natalia Rivas ran to a 16th place finish in her marathon debut in Saturday’s NAIA outdoor track & field championships in Marion, Ind.
“We take tremendous pride in having our athletes ready for the marathon, and there’s no doubt Natalia exceeded our expectations today,” Head Coach Chris Layne said. “It’s hard to flawlessly execute a race plan when you’re talking about 26.2 miles but Natalia pulled it off today. I’m proud of her approach and professionalism, and I’m proud of how hard our entire staff worked to support her today.”
Rivas, who entered the event seeded 36th, covered the 26.2-mile course in a time of 3:13.40. The senior covered the first eight miles in 58:59, and then picked up the pace as she crossed the 16-mile mark with a time of 1:57.07.
Rivas’ run capped off a solid season for the Buffaloes in which the women’s cross country team ran to their 10th straight Appalachian Athletic Conference and the women’s track and field team recorded their third straight top-two finish at the conference meet.
