Woman accused of burglarizing Johnson City apartment, using stolen food stamp card

Walmart video showed a Johnson City woman using a food stamps card stolen in an apartment burglary, resulting in her arrest on Wednesday, police said.

Christy Renee Gillespie, 26, 1714 Carter Ave., was charged with aggravated burglary, theft under $500 and fraud.

Police said in a court document a man at 1800 Seminole Drive reported that someone had gone into his apartment through the front door and stole his EBT card and an X-Box game system on April 14.

On April 15, he notified the state's food stamp office and was told his card had been used at the Johnson City Walmart on Browns Mill Road.

Johnson City Police Department Investigator Andy Clevinger contacted the store's security office and obtained surveillance video showing Gillespie and two men using the card. The victim identified Gillespie and one of the men but not the other, according to the court document.

Gillespie was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $21,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance today.
