One charge dropped against Y-12 protesters

The federal government Thursday filed a motion to drop one of three felony charges against the Plowshares protesters who broke into the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant on July 28, 2012.
The motion in U.S. District Court in Knoxville is to drop count No. 2 of a superseding indictment that was returned late last year by a federal grand jury. According to the brief motion, the government decided “upon further investigation” that it could not establish jurisdiction for the charge.
Count No. 2 alleges the three defendants —Sister Megan Rice, Michael Walli and Greg Boertje-Obed — “did willfully and maliciously destroy, injure, and attempt to destroy and injure, a structure, and other real and personal property within the Y-12 National Security Complex.”
