Johnson City man charged with beating, choking girlfriend

A Wheeler Street man was arrested Saturday after accusations that he beat and choked his live-in girlfriend and held blankets over her face.
Brandon G. Corbitt, 29, 2200 Wheeler St., was charged with aggravated domestic assault after a witness heard the two fighting via phone and called 911 about 11 p.m. Saturday, police said in a court document.
The victim, who was not named in the document, told police Corbitt had gone out drinking and took her debit card. She woke up and found that her card was gone.
When he returned home Saturday morning, they argued. He punched her face, choked her and held blankets over her face, she told police.
The woman told police she nearly lost consciousness.
Police said the victim's left eye was swollen and she had marks on the left side of her neck.
Corbitt was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center without bond pending a Sessions Court appearance today.
