Johnson City police charged an East Holston Avenue man Wednesday with lying to police about stolen iPads in his possession.
Christopher B. Rowe, 30, 1305 E. Holston Ave., was arrested as a result of an investigation into a recent burglary at 116 Tipton St., police said in a news release.
In a court document, Johnson City Police Department Patrolman Adam Lunceford said he contacted Rowe March 24 about an iPad he had recently purchased. Rowe told Lunceford he did not know the iPad had been stolen and only bought one iPad from a friend of a friend for $180.
Lunceford reported, however, that he had charged Jennifer Harris with the Tipton Street burglary, and in cooperating with police, Harris said she had sold two iPads to Rowe and he knew they were stolen.
She told Lunceford Rowe would only pay $100 for the first iPad because it was stolen and contacted her the next day to buy the second for $75.
Rowe was charged with theft over $500 and false reporting. He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 pending a Sessions Court appearance today.
Lunceford reported that more than $7,000 worth of property was stolen in the burglary.
