Johnson City police: Empty gas tank upends fleeing driver, resulting in 18th revoked license driving charge

A man fleeing a Johnson City traffic stop Sunday ran out of gas in Carter County, allowing authorities to arrest him on charges including his 18th of offense of driving on a revoked license, police said in a news release.
Police tried to stop Robert Dean Bowlin, 58, 2720 Watauga Road, for speeding on East Fairview Avenue. Bowlin sped up and quickly turned onto a gravel road that led into Carter County, police said.
Bowlin ran out of gas and was found standing beside his vehicle.
Bowlin was charged with felony evading arrest, 18th offense driving on a revoked license and being a habitual motor offender.
He was jailed in the Washington County Detention on $16,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance Monday.
