A new online newsletter designed by the Washington County Economic Development Council is aiming to keep downtown businesses, residents, employees and building owners up to date on all of the developments that are taking place in downtown Johnson City.
The newsletter takes its name from a newspaper published in Johnson City from 1891-1893.
“I kind of wanted to pay homage to Johnson City’s history,” Economic Development Council Director of Redevelopment Shannon Castillo said.
Since there are so many things happening in the way of downtown parking discussions, streetscaping, road closures and other downtown developments, Castillo said she wanted a way to communicate with downtown stakeholders.
“I thought an email would be boring, so I wanted to jazz it up with a newsletter, so this is our inaugural edition,” she said.
The first issue contains updates about the downtown parking forum held last month, upcoming meetings and events pertaining to downtown, and the latest information about road closures as the city works on streetscaping projects.
Since the launch, Castillo said the newsletter has been well-received. The mailing list has about 200 subscribers so far.
Castillo said she hopes to send out the newsletter either once a month or every two weeks.
“I don’t want it to be something that people don’t read. I want it to have solid content with information that they really want to know about,” she said.
Some of that upcoming content might include videos created by Economic Development Council Director of Marketing and Community Relations Jeff Keeling, information on First Friday, and promotions of downtown businesses.
