Elizabethton council to interview two city manager finalists

ELIZABETHTON — The Elizabethton City Council will interview two of the finalists for the city manager job Friday and the remaining two candidates March 21.
The first interview will be held from 3:30-4:45 p.m. Friday for Melissa Peagler, senior planner with the town of Morristown since 2004.
The Peagler interview will be followed by an interview for Jerome Kitchens from 5:15-6:30 p.m. Kitchens is Elizabethton’s financial director and has been serving as interim city manager since the retirement of Fred Edens in early January.
The council members who have questions they don’t want to ask in the public forum have a one-on-one chance to talk to the candidates Monday, when Peagler will be available for phone calls from noon-1 p.m. and Kitchens will be available for calls from 1-2 p.m.
The final two candidates will be interviewed March 21. Steven Nielson, development coordinator for Johnson City, will be interviewed from 2-3:15 p.m.
Nielson will be followed by an interview session for Jeffrey Morse, who has been town manager of Valdese, N.C., since 1980.
Nielson and Morse will also be available for one-on-one telephone calls March 22. Calls to Nielson will be from noon-1 p.m. and Morse is scheduled to be available from 1-2 p.m.
Pat Hardy, municipal management consultant with the University of Tennessee’s Municipal Technical Advisory Service, is assisting the council during the search. The four finalists were selected from 130 applications.
