Family wants justice for East Tenn. teen shot, killed

KNOXVILLE — Belinda Jackson was in her kitchen making cheeseburgers for her grandson, Hakeen, when he told her he would be right back. Shortly after, she said, she heard a knock on the door.

Thinking Hakeen had left his key, she rushed to the door. Instead of her grandson, it was the police, who told her the 17-year-old had been shot.

“We went to him and we were talking to him,” Jackson said. “He was saying ‘Granny, I didn’t do anything ... I just heard a loud noise.”

The teen was shot in the chest shortly before 7:40 p.m. Friday while he was walking on Woodbine Avenue, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk. He was in front of 2329 Woodbine Ave. in the Parkridge community when an eastbound gray sedan, possibly an older Ford Taurus, approached, police said.
