ELIZABETHTON — A prisoner in the Carter County Detention Center faces additional charges after a correction officer reported finding him in possession of quarantined drugs.
Jeffery Roger Hammonds, 27, Kingsport, was charged with possession of quarantined items in a penal facility, possession of a schedule IV drug for resale and two counts of possession of a legend drug.
Officer Brittany Thompson reported she saw Hammonds put something behind his back as she walked in. She demanded that he show her what he had. She said he handed her a plastic bag containing tobacco, $19 in cash and 14 round orange pills she identified on a pill finder as cyclobenzaprine, a muscle relaxant. A Bic lighter was also found on the floor where she said Hammonds had been sitting.
A shakedown inspection was conducted and officers reported finding several other types of pills including zolpidem, a schedule IV drug used for the treatment of insomnia.
Hammonds is scheduled to answer the new charges Feb. 19.
