ERWIN — Officials are continuing to investigate an apparent triple homicide-suicide that occurred early Saturday morning in Erwin.
According to a release issued Saturday by Erwin Police Chief Regan Tilson, officers from the Erwin Police Department were dispatched to 750 Carolina Ave., Apt. 124B, around 2:11 a.m. on a report of a wounded person calling 911.
Officers made entry into the residence, where the bodies of two adults and two children were located, the release states. The release also states that it appears the adult male shot and killed his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself.
“This appears to be a domestic-related incident where the aggressor inflicted fatal gunshot wounds to his wife and two children then took his own life,” the release states. “This was a very traumatic event for the families of the deceased and the community. There will be no further release from this agency as to the identities of those involved until all next of kin can be notified.”
The release states the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the case and further inquiries regarding the case were referred to that agency.
TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said late Saturday afternoon that the TBI is not releasing further details at this time, including the identities of the shooter and the victims.
“Once autopsies are completed victims are positively identified we will release that information,” Helm stated in an emailed response.
