A river flood warning has been extended for the North Fork of the Holston River in Scott County, Va., and Hawkins and Sullivan counties in Tennessee.
The warning was originally scheduled to expire at 1 p.m. but has since been extended through Friday evening. The National Weather Service reports that at 11:15 a.m. Thursday water levels were at 12.6 feet, just above the 12 feet flood stage.
As a result minor flooding is occurring, with water levels expected to hit 13.5 feet after midnight before they begin falling.
A winter weather advisory will be in effect tonight and Friday morning across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, with light to moderate snow expected over that time.
