Police have arrested a man who told officers he shot another man in the leg Wednesday on East Millard Street.
Jerry R. Crum, 42, 1407 E. Millard St., was charged with aggravated assault, police announced late Thursday in a news release.
Gregory Thomas Smith, 48, no address available, showed up at the Johnson City Police Department with a gunshot wound in his leg. Smith had been driven to the JCPD's station on East Main Street, where he reported the shooting to a patrol officer about 9:15 p.m. Smith was taken to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
Police went to 1407 E. Millard St. and spoke with Crum, who said Smith had been to his house asking him about the whereabouts of another person, police said in the report.
Crum told police Smith had a knife and threatened him, prompting him to get a gun. He told Smith to leave, but Smith began waving the knife around, so Crum fired a shot at the ground near Smith.
Crum told police Smith continued to be aggressive, so Crum fired a second shot, this time striking Smith in the leg. Smith left in a waiting car.
Crum was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $20,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance today.
