Three people were arrested and another was being sought in a Tuesday robbery in western Carter County in which a shot was reportedly fired, according to Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes.
Mathes said the sheriff’s department, along with Johnson City and Elizabethton police, responded to a robbery call at 8:30 a.m. at 110 Hillside Drive.
“There was a shot that was fired during the robbery. Two black males and two white females took part in this robbery. There was a large amount of cash that was taken and recovered by the sheriff’s department. We have three people in custody ... and we’re looking for a fourth,” he said.
Gary Hammonds, 26, 103 Sequoyah Drive, Apt. 14, and Robert Glen Goins, 53, 1613 E. Fairview Ave., both of Johnson City, and Ashley Nicole Norris, 27, 276 Berry Hill Road, Elizabethton, were arrested and taken to Carter County Detention Center.
Mathes said the fourth suspect, identified as Crystal Barnes, 33, whose last known address was on Martindale Drive in Johnson City, is wanted in connection with the robbery.
He said during the robbery two adults and three children, ages 2, 3 and 7, were in the residence.
“Everyone’s OK, but we’ve actually recovered a lot of evidence. We recovered the actual bullet that was shot,” Mathes said. “I’m really proud of my guys. We’ve been working on this all day. We really appreciate the assistance from Johnson City Police Department, as well as Elizabethton City.”
Mathes said Hammonds, Goins, Norris and Barnes were all charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest. Hammonds also was charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment.
