Mingo lifts Crockett to Big Eight victory


Isaac Mingo’s third consecutive double-double powered David Crockett to its first Big Eight Conference win.
Mingo scored 19 points and hauled in 14 rebounds as the Pioneers defeated Volunteer 62-55 on Tuesday night in Jonesborough.
Josh Saults added 11 points for the Pioneers, who moved to 4-6 and 1-1 in the Big Eight.
David McFarland racked up a game-high 23 points to lead Volunteer, which fell to 0-4 and 0-3.

KINGSPORT — The Indians struggled early, but recovered for the Big Eight win.
Dobyns-Bennett outscored the Cougars 32-8 in the third quarter.

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Chase Phillips scored 21 points and the Longhorns beat the Warriors for a Three Rivers win.
Ryan Mahala pulled down 11 rebounds and chipped in five points for Johnson County, which led by nine points at half and 15 after three quarters.
Kelton Brzostowski paced Happy Valley with 12 points.

BLUFF CITY — David Casaday scored 21 points as the Patriots got off to a fast start and never looked back.
East led 22-11 after a quarter and was on top 35-20 at the half.
Johnson King scored 16 points and Austin Fleenor had 15 for the Patriots (8-3). Fleenor tossed in four of the team’s eight 3-pointers.
The Golden Raiders were led by Chase Arnold’s 25 points.
University High 78
Tri-Cities Christian 64
Marcus Taylor and Joseph Phillips led a balanced attack for the Junior Bucs with 17 points apiece.
UH also got 12 points each from Calen Archer and Marshall Hurley.
The Eagles also had four men score in double figures, led by Holden Joseph with 17 points. Terry Miller and Drew Blythe had 11 points apiece, and Noah Rosenbalm chipped in with 10.

The Lady Rebels made two buckets in the final minute of regulation and shut out the ’Blazers in overtime for the Big Eight win.
Kayla Tipton scored a game-high 24 points to pace South. Courtney McKenzie added 16.
Boone, which led by seven after three quarters, got 10 points from Jenny Snyder and nine from Allison Littleton.

Savannah Felgemacher’s double-double lifted the Lady Falcons to the Big Eight win.
Felgemacher, who scored 10 points in the first quarter to put Volunteer up 17-9, finished the game with 30 points and 13 rebounds. Lindsey Overbay added 15 points for the Falcons.
Heather Scalf led Crockett with 11 points, while Madison Grindstaff had 10.

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Kalee Johnson had a double-double as the Warriors picked up the Three Rivers win.
Johnson’s 12 points and 14 rebounds paced Happy Valley. Shalee Perry netted 11 points and grabbed five steals, while Jenna Eaton had 10 points and four steals. Mackenzie Blankenship led in assists with four.
Johnson County was led by Brionna Reece with a game-high 19 points. Sarah Swift added 11.
Tri-Cities Christian (girls) 58
University High 44
The Lady Eagles prevailed in a 3-point shooting display at Brooks Gym.
Combing for 14 shots from 3-point range, five Tri-Cities players hit eight treys and three UH players made six. Alicia Cook and Emily Fox made two 3-pointers apiece and led TCC with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Taylor Treadway, who made three treys, led UH with a game-high 19 points.
