Walnut Street ripe for growth and development

The nearly mile-long stretch of West Walnut Street from Buffalo Street to University Parkway is home to a myriad of businesses and potential for growth as development along the State of Franklin corridor and downtown Johnson City gains traction.
Throughout the more than three decades The Firehouse Restaurant has operated in Johnson City, owner Tom Seaton has seen the ups and downs of being located Walnut Street.
“There was a period 25 years ago where this area was in a state of decline and that’s really turned around pretty significantly,” Seaton said.
Walnut is anchored by the Tree Streets, East Tennessee State University, downtown Johnson City and the State of Franklin corridor.
With the development that’s happening along the State of Franklin corridor from the university to the downtown area, Seaton said there’s more potential for growth along Walnut than ever before.
