Thanksgiving is a time for all of us to count our blessings, and we Americans have much to be grateful for. Certainly, we should be thankful for the food many of us will enjoy today. We also need to be mindful of the volunteers who will be helping feed the less fortunate on this Thanksgiving Day.
In that regard, we also should be thankful that the Johnson City Area United Way campaign is nearing the homestretch in reaching its $1,775,000 fundraising goal this year. Contributions to the campaign help fund 17 local service agencies that lend a helping hand to the less fortunate in our community.
Earlier this month, United Way officials reported the campaign has collected $1.3 million of its goal. While the finish line may be in sight, the work is not yet over. United Way needs your help to wrap up the fundraising campaign in the coming weeks. More than $400,000 still needs to be raised before the campaign’s final report in December.
The theme of this year’s Johnson City United Way campaign, “Give From Your Heart,” is an honest appeal to people of good will. Contributions will go to help support agencies like Adult Day Care Services, the American Red Cross, Girls Inc. and the Coalition for Kids.
You, too, can show your generosity today by sending a donation to the Johnson City Area United Way, 926 W. Oakland Ave., Suite 214, Johnson City, TN 37602.
By making a contribution to United Way, local residents can truly make a difference in their communities. A donation of as little as 60 cents a day — the price of a soda from a vending machine — can go a long way to help friends and neighbors who are in need.
Make this Thanksgiving a time to share your bounty with others who are in need.
