Johnson City police arrested a 29-year-old city man Monday on charges that he allegedly stole nearly $7,000 worth of items from an apartment over the weekend.
Joshua M. Williams, 806 Bert St., was charged with aggravated burglary, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, theft over $1,000 and criminal trespassing.
Williams’ arrest stemmed from an investigation into the burglary of 1400 Orleans St., Apt. 320, where police said Williams had stolen $6,983 worth of items, including electronics, jewelry, a pistol and nearly $500 in cash on Saturday just before 8 p.m.
Police said the front door of the residence had pry marks near the dead bolt and a footprint where the door had been kicked in.
Witnesses reportedly told police a person matching Williams’ description was seen fleeing the residence with two other men, carrying bags full of items.
Williams was located near his Bert Street residence a short time later and arrested for criminal trespassing. Police then discovered Williams was in possession of several items that were taken from the Orleans Street apartment.
Williams was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $36,000 bond.
