Update: Mother of Carter County child killed by dump truck indicted for murder

ELIZABETHTON — The mother of a 4-year-old who was killed last month when he was run over by a dump truck was arrested Tuesday on first degree murder and aggravated child abuse charges.
Tiffani Marie Holston was indicted by a Carter County grand jury on Tuesday and was immediately arrested. She was already at the Carter County Justice Center, where she had a court appearance in Criminal Court on outstanding drug charges.
First District Attorney General Tony Clark said the charges were sent to the grand jury after an investigation which included statements from eye witnesses and viewings of video from security cameras at several businesses in close proximity to the intersection of Lynn Avenue and Broad Street, where Joshua Holston was hit by the truck on Oct. 11.
“It was horrible to watch the videos, but we have an obligation,” Clark said. “We thought there was enough evidence to take it in front of the grand jury.”
Clark said he knew Holston would be in court Tuesday on a status hearing on outstanding charges. She is facing two counts of possession of Schedule III drugs for resale, two counts of possession of Schedule IV drugs for resale and theft of property under $500.
When the grand jury returned the true bill on Holston’s charges, she was immediately arrested.
Clark said Holston had been in court just days before the fatal accident. On Oct. 5 she had been in court on the same charges, but had failed the drug test. The case had then been reset for Nov. 13.
